There is a “return receipt” function in many e-mail programs.

However! None of them work very well. There is no set standard for return receipts, and every e-mail server does it differently. You may get a “read” return for just delivery and not being truely read. Or you may get nothing at all.

There are some 3rd party services available that will do much better. Below is one I found through Google, not sure if it’s the best, but there are lots. They use different methods for return information that work better.

I should there is no way. To read or not is basically the freedom of the recipient. Nobody can force him to read. While many ISP are offering ways to make receipt confirmation, the real thing is, the recipient will be asked whether to send the receipt confirmation to send or not.

If your intention is to make sure someone receives something and there is no excuse for that someone to say “I never receive”, I don’t think email is the channel. You should go for registered mail where no representative is allow to sign on behalf.
